And the Winners of the 2007 Jus' Blues Awards Are…

The historic Daisy Theatre hosted the Jus' Blues awards Thursday night, honoring the best in African-American soul and blues musicians and industry personnel.

Numerous Memphis figures received lifetime achievement honors, including Soulsville’s Deanie Parker, Hi Records' Willie Mitchell, and artist Bobby "Blue" Bland.

CC Blues Club at 1427 N. Thomas Street won as "Juke Joint of the Year," defeating local competition from the Boss Lounge, and other grown folks’ night spots from Macon, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; Elgin, Texas; and Mobile, Alabama.

Another local nominee, Sheba Potts-Wright, fell short in the "Best Blues and Soul Female Vocalist" category, though she graciously stood and cheered the announcement that her mentor Denise LaSalle had taken that prize.

Event organizers say that they will be back next year, and, hopefully, beyond.
