When: Wed., Sept. 5, 9 p.m. 2012
Since releasing their eighth and best album, Women & Work, last spring, local rock institution Lucero has kept busy, touring the country, playing an Atlantic City festival lineup handpicked by Metallica, and recently releasing their first “official” video, a Mississippi-shot backwoods bacchanalia for the current album’s title track. The touring continues into the fall: After just finishing a Rust Belt run, the band will be back on the road for a Southeastern tour in October and then a European tour in November and December. You would think frontman Ben Nichols might use his September downtime for rest and recuperation. Instead, he’s launching a 10-date regional solo tour which will kick off this week at the Hi-Tone Café. Nichols has peppered his Lucero work with solo excursions in recent years, including a solo EP, The Last Pale Light in the West, in 2009, and playing occasional solo gigs — often accompanied by Lucero sidemen Rick Steff and Todd Beene. For this tour opener, Nichols will be joined by another bandleader in solo form, Joey Kneiser of Middle Tennessee’s Glossary. Nichols and Kneiser play the Hi-Tone Café on Wednesday, September 5th. Showtime is 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
