Memphis St. Pat's Parade Doesn't Discriminate

A 1995 U.S. Supreme Court decision allowed Boston, Massachusetts' St. Patrick's Day parade organizers to ban gay groups from taking part in the annual march.

But Memphis' Beale Street Merchants Association doesn't discriminate. For the second year, the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Community Center (MGLCC) will be represented in the parade down Beale Street on Saturday, March 13th.

Currently, the MGLCC is seeking LGBT people and straight allies to join in the parade walking group. Anyone interested should e-mail or call 901-278-6422 to sign up. The parade begins at 4 p.m., but walkers will begin lining up at 2 p.m.

We are commanded to love the sinner, not the sin. This is choosing to celebrate and encourage someone's struggle with sin. Next thing I expect to hear is that the residents of 201 Poplar have a right to march in pride of their sins too. Christians of Memphis, stop trying to conform and start standing up for what is God's will.

Did you just equate gays with criminals? Seriously, it's time you move to another country (I hear Saudi Arabia is nice this time of year) where your personal beliefs in goblins and unicorns outweigh the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. Love it or leave it, baby.

AmberJean's obviously never been to a GOP convention, either.

You can always expect more than their share of hatred, fear and self-righteousness from the christians. All in the name of their god of course!

So many Christians in the South are so extreme. Go anywhere else in the country (save parts of the midwest), and it would be different. I don't claim to be a Christian, it's just something I've noticed.

I think it's fabulous that MGLCC has a place in the parade! Awesome news.
