Cities Aviv

When: Fri., July 8, 9 p.m. 2011

After releasing his terrific first full-length album, the internet-only Digital Lows, last month — you can download it at citiesaviv.bandcamp.com — young local rapper Gavin “Cities Aviv” Mays is putting out some physical product this week: the three-song Coastin’ single on the local Fat Sandwich Records label. “Don’t call it a comeback, just call it a grand entrance,” Mays boasts on the title song, referencing LL Cool J, but this is far from familiar hip-hop braggadocio. With its watery beats, soft string and horn interplay, and title refrain, “Coastin’” has a hazy, seductively idiosyncratic vibe. Cities Aviv will celebrate the single’s release on Friday, July 8th, at Escape Alley with veteran DJ Redeye Jedi. Also on the bill are promising new local rap artist Royal’T, DJ/producer IMAKEMADBEATS, and Grim. Showtime is 9 p.m. Admission is $8, which includes a copy of the Coastin’ single
