Domestic Spying

Jack Moten, the 61-year-old West Memphis pastor and politician accused of rigging a hidden video camera in his 14-year-old stepdaughter's bedroom, is out on bond and talking to the press.

"What I wanted to do is let her see this [camera] and scare her," Moten told WREG-TV, claiming that the equipment he placed in his stepdaughter's air conditioning vent was merely a lens and not an entire camera.

If scaring the girl was Moten's goal, clearly he succeeded. At least the religious leader didn't invoke 9/11 or accuse the young girl of hiding WMD in her underwear drawer.

Gun Show

Police officials told WMC news that the gun turn-in program held Saturday at The Pyramid was a success and "an efficient way for the MPD to collect an arsenal that might otherwise be used against them or other citizens." According to WMC, "the guns collected at Saturday's turn-in will be cataloged and destroyed."

Well, unless the arsenal vanishes from MPD storage only to be resold to criminals, generating money for drugs, which will attract hookers that can be driven to Tunica and pimped to high rollers. That's how these things have worked over the past few years, isn't it?

Men of Letters

Popular satirical blogger Gen. J.C. Christian recently posted this letter to Tennessee Republican senate candidate Van Hilleary:

"Although I respect your commitment to traditional family values, I wasn't sure that you were the right man to replace Sen. Dr. Frist ... until today, when I read about the good work you're doing encouraging fetus-Americans to exercise. How could anyone not respect a man who forces his wife, eight-months pregnant with a little fetus-American, to go door-to-door, campaigning in 90 degree heat."
