Miserable Memphis According to The Commercial Appeal, William Rosselle was robbed on March 3rd while traveling home from work. Rosselle was "set upon by two men, who knocked him down with a slung shot, and rifled his pockets of about seven dollars in change." His injuries, the newspaper reports, weren't severe but "not altogether bloodless." Before adding this event to your list of reasons for leaving miserable Memphis, the report — taken from the CA's Civil War-Era Memories section — was originally filed in 1861.
Sloganeering According to a WREG report, the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau is taking advantage of high gas prices to promote the Bluff City as a "perfect alternative for travelers who perhaps can't afford to make it all the way to the beach this year." CVB president Kevin Kane said the message is tailored to nearby markets for people who "don't want to take a total staycation." Kane said Memphis will be "on the top of their radar screen if for no other reason than the proximity." Memphis: It's not where you want to be, but it's not too far away.
