Trendspotting
Last week, WMC-TV posted this hilarious teaser on the station’s Facebook page: “The popular trend of buying your clothes from thrift stores has made it to the Mid-South.” The update asked trendy readers where they like to go “thrifting”? In related news, young people sure do seem to go mad for the swinging sounds of that new musical sensation called rock-and-roll. In even more related news, WMC’s story about this new thing called thrift shopping turned out to be a CNN-generated package about thrift stores in Atlanta. Take that, Bibles for China!

Beatings Continue
Shelby County Schools Board Commissioner Joe Clayton, who’s spent 40 years as a school administrator and principal, came under fire last week, following a refreshingly medieval debate over the use of spanking as a disciplinary tool.Clayton, using perennially effective Cold War rhetoric, said that the mere threat of a spanking might scare kids into better behavior and that sending teachers to school without paddles was “like sending a soldier into a combat zone and telling him he can’t take his weapon.” He should at least be commended for calling the beating sticks what they are.

Facebooked
You might consider “liking” the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook. Not only can you help local law enforcement identify suspects, you get to wake up every morning to mugshots of wanted fugitives like this guy.
