What a Rush!

To the Editor:

I enjoy reading your tabloid to keep up with the local political scene as well as other current issues that take place in our region. As a fairly conservative person who has voted for both Republicans and Democrats, I found your story about Rush Limbaugh (October 9th issue) disgraceful. From the picture on the cover, to the side story that first ran in the wonderful Los Angeles Times (which is a great paper as long as your name is not Arnold), to the hilarious Viewpoint, it's all junk. Yes, Donavan McNabb is a good football player, but how does his quarterback rating compare to other quarterbacks in the league who don't get nearly the recognition? I think Rush's point had some merit, and because of that, made all of us feel a little uncomfortable.

The problem with the left is that they can't quite remember two important things:

1) Clinton's impeachment was not for lying to the public or for having oral sex with a young intern but for lying to a grand jury.

2) Al Gore lost.

Get over it. Move on.

To the Editor:

Rush made a cardinal mistake. We all know that any criticism or humor directed at any minority by a conservative is labeled, without regard for facts, as racist. Had some socialist liberal, white or black, made the same remarks, we'd have had to endure a barrage of orgasmic reactions like "how insightful." No socialist liberal would dare speak the truth when it paints their media comrades as social engineers.

The reaction from the left is as expected: ignorant and full of venom.

To the Editor:

In regard to your tasteless front-page description of Rush Limbaugh: Are you a legitimate news source or a liberal rag? It appears to be the latter!

Editor's note: We are definitely a liberal rag.

To the Editor:

Today, I saw a copy of your weekly rag with Rush on the front. I guess the old saying is true: You get what you pay for.

Jerry Baker

Memphis

Editor's note: Just wondering: How much do you pay for Rush's show?

To the Editor:

Rush Limbaugh makes a racist remark and ESPN is surprised?

Randy Savage tells a gay caller that he hopes the man gets AIDS and dies and MSNBC is stunned?

Gosh, it's so hard to believe that two "gentlemen" who have built their careers by flaunting their pathological hatred of Bill and Hillary Clinton could do such a thing!

Next thing you know we'll be shocked (shocked!) to learn that David Duke (also a budding radio talk-show host) is a racial bigot and that local embarrassment Mike Fleming's malicious, incoherent tirades attacking the public schools fail to meet grade school standards for grammar and syntax.

Wonders never cease.

Patriot Dreams

To the Editor:

Before Jay Scott brags (Letters to the Editor, October 9th issue) about his understanding of the Constitution, perhaps he should study how bills originate. While the so-called Patriot Act remains law for the time being, the Bush administration drafted this egregious bill with input from Ashcroft's myrmidons. Now the Justice Department is pushing something called the Domestic Security Enhancement Act, which, according to Anthony Lewis, would deprive an American of his citizenship should he support an organization deemed terrorist -- shades of Joe McCarthy!

The voters of Missouri wisely did not reelect Ashcroft. He owes his resurrection to the draft-dodging neocons who are taking us down disastrous paths by flouting the Constitution Scott says he cherishes. Congress continues to show a lack of spine in resisting these fanatics.
