As city attorney, Sara Hall wears a lot of different hats. And last Thursday, she wore a tall red-and-white striped one.

While Memphis police director Larry Godwin read The Cat in the Hat to a group of children at a Whitehaven child care center, Hall snuck out from behind a curtain dressed as everyone's favorite talking cat. She carried a large garbage bag filled with objects such as plastic fish and dolls, telling the children to hold up the objects when they heard Godwin mention them in the story.

Hall says workers at GreenTree Child Care Center asked her if she could find a police officer to read to the children in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday.

"When I asked Director Godwin if he'd send an officer, I told him I'd dress like Dr. Seuss if he would do it personally," said Hall. "It was really in jest, but he agreed."

And luckily, Hall already owned the costume.
