Knews You Need To Know

1. Bellevue Baptist Church is bringing in an evangelist and safari hunter to host next month's Wild Game Dinner. Hmmm. When did they take that line out of the Bible - you know, the one about "Thou shalt not kill"?

2. A wrecking crew has torn down the former Eureka Hotel. Demolition was halted months ago when researchers discovered the building was a favorite stopover for prominent African-American musicians when they were playing in Memphis. The owners offered the structure to any nonprofit who could restore it, but no dice. No wonder the hotel shares the same name as a vacuum cleaner - it just got swept away.

3. A state parole board says convicted killer Harold Don Noel must remain in jail for the murder of his attorney, Robert Friedman. No surprise there, since Noel has only been in prison about three years. What still boggles the mind, though, is the six-year sentence he received for the crime. Another three years, and he's out.

4. Circuit Court Judge D'Army Bailey has put a rather unusual old bathtub on eBay. It's where James Earl Ray stood when he fired the shot from the boarding house window that killed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bidding started at $10,000, and the auction runs through next week. Ten grand for a rusty tub? Sounds pricey to us. You can get a brand-new one for about $200 at Lowe's. n
