Hometown amusement park Libertyland

is closed after 30 years, and we even sell off most of its popular rides and attractions. Then, an out-of-town investor decides that what Memphis needs is an amusement park called Joyland, and he wants to build it right on the site of Libertyland. Whew, all this is making our head spin faster than the old carousel.

Local firefighters battle a huge blaze at a South Memphis warehouse packed with bales of cotton. Luckily, like the downtown fires in October, no one is injured despite the tremendous size of the fire. Keep this up, though, and our luck is bound to run out someday.

Collierville police arrest two men, who were apparently living out of their car, for driving around that town and shooting out the windows of more than 30 vehicles with a BB gun. We're happy they weren't using a "real" gun, but it was still a dangerous (and costly) crime. After all, as we learned from the movie A Christmas Story, you can "shoot your eye out" with those things.

Two armed robbers snatched a bag containing $7,000 from a Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association employee who was taking the money -- intended as donations to needy families -- to the bank. Crime in Memphis is bad, but this is really a new low.
