Two for the Road

When Char and Louis Magnifico got married two years ago, they decided the conventional 9-to-5 life was not for them. This Memphis couple has a strong need for fun, and they created a multimedia site — thetravelingtwosome.com — to share their adventures.

"We were in our 30s, and we said, 'Let's enjoy life again,'" Louis explains. "This is a reflection of where we are."

"A Day in the Life" is a video series the Magnificos are working on for their site. They've made "A Day in the Life of a Goat Farmer" ("We were a slave to the goats," Louis says) and "A Day in the Life of a Professional Wrestler" (according to Louis, more real than it appears on TV, but more on that later). On Friday, they're filming "A Day in the Life of a Blues Legend" at Beignet Café, and they're inviting you to see them in action.

The Magnificos prefer to approach "A Day in the Life" with little prep or research — in other words, "completely clueless," Louis says. For the "Blues Legend" episode, the pair does have a leg-up. They met while playing in a band, and they'll have backup from guitarist Guy Lee.

Louis says he and Char are particularly pleased with the following thetravelingtwosome.com has garnered, and he points out that the wrestling episode was a fan suggestion. In the ring for that "Day in the Life," it was Louis versus Char. What's more, the male-female grappling elicited a response from the girlfriend of the late comedian Andy Kaufman, who oh-so infamously wrestled women.

As for the outcome of the wrestling match between Louis and Char: "I lost!" Louis says.

"A Day in the Life of a Blues Legend," Beignet Café (124 G.E. Patterson), Friday, October 15th, 7-10 p.m.
