About "Letter from the Editor" and Bruce VanWyngarden's suggestion that our city's eyesores should be replaced with green spaces:

"Tearing 'old crap down' — and two of Memphis' most iconic buildings — is one of the most regressive, old-school ideas ever to come out of the Flyer. There are huge unused gaps already created by all the previous old crap that's been torn down. The Medical Center and Crosstown are literally littered with vacant parking lots that would make Memphis a massive garden if planted like you suggest. Why not start there before destroying even more of Memphis' urban fabric?" — gatesofmemphis

About "Tea Party On," by Chris Davis:

"No fan of spending here, just wondering where the tea parties were the last eight years when W spent like a drunken sailor? No fan of taxes, just wondering where the shouts of socialism and fascism (?!) were when Reagan raised taxes four times between '82 and '84? Bush Sr. was ousted for raising taxes, but I certainly don't remember people calling him Hitler. I'm registered Independent so I've got no dog in this fight, but there has been some amazingly ignorant rhetoric flying around for far too long." — wvfii

Comment of the Week:

About "Ford Declines Gubernatorial Race," by Jackson Baker:

"Thank God for small favors. I must say that the photo of Junior smoking a cigar with the wrapper still on it is quite striking. All he needs is a top hat and a cane and a burning hundred dollar bill." — jeff
