Just as one sips a fine vintage wine while dining on haute cuisine, one should wash down pulled pork with a cold, cold brewski. That’s the thinking behind the first-ever Sudzfest event being held during the 28th annual Tennessee Funfest, a barbecue-cooking contest being held at the Agricenter this weekend.
On Friday, June 19th from 6 to 9 p.m., barbecue fans will have the opportunity to sample over 75 foreign and domestic brews including locally made Ghost River Brewery beers, Lazy Magnolia Pecan, Xingu, Medicino, and Red Tail Ale.
“We tried to think of what Tennessee Funfest was missing, and we realized that beer is a natural at a barbecue contest,” says Larry Gruner, an organizer for the Funfest. “But instead of putting on a drunk fest, this will be an educational event on different types of beer. People will be given small tasting samples.”
Though the Sudzfest area will be roped off from the rest of Funfest, beer samplers will be allowed to judge barbecue inside the Sudzfest area for the People’s Choice contest. Besides a cooking contest and beer tasting, Funfest will also feature a carnival midway, live music, a mechanical bull, bungee jumping, and a kiddie area.
Funfest begins runs through Saturday, June 20th. For a complete schedule, go to www.tnfunfest.com.
