Chile Poblano at Los Compadres

Sometimes in life tough decisions must be made. Sometimes at dinner too. Combination platters can be a boon for the indecisive. But when there are more than 30 combination platters on the menu like there are at Los Compadres, ordering can be like a multiple-choice test. Quesadillas, tostadas, tamales, tacos, enchiladas, chapulas, and burritos are all options among what appear to be endless possibilities.

We say start with those dishes that offer the chile poblano and build from there. The chile poblano is a large green pepper stuffed with melted Chihuahua cheese and served with a tomatos sauce. The slightly waxy taste of the cheese and the moderate heat from the sauce give the pepper a deliciously distinct flavor that isn’t easily overwhelmed or overwhelming.

"Recommended Dish" started in the Flyer in 2005, but the feature hasn't been available online. We're now working on archiving them and posting them on Hungry Memphis. This "RD" is from January 2006.
