Area foodies, listen up: The Southern Food & Wine Festival is happening July 31st-August 2nd at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville.
The weekend will include cooking seminars with such Food Network stars as Pat and Gina Neely, Alton Brown, and Bobby and Jamie Deen.
Part of the festivities include a search for the "Best Slow Cooker in the Country."
The contest is intriguingly Iron Chef-like: Participants, who will have a work area and a Hamilton Beach slow cooker, will have to prepare a dish with provided "bonus" ingredients, "staple" ingredients, and "mystery"(!) ingredients.
Entries will be judged on creativity, taste, temperature, and appearance. Local chefs will determine the winner, who will receive $1,000.
The contest starts on Friday with the finals on Sunday. For more information, go here.
To enter, e-mail Amanda Taylor or call 615-458-2878.
Looks like a couple of Hungry Memphians may be in attendance at the festival. Check back for details.
