Fitz & the Ultimate Cooking Hookers will perform at the Center for Southern Folklore’s Memphis Music and Heritage Festival on Sunday, September 6th at 7:15 p.m.
The Cooking Hookers includes Shane Kirkpatrick, Eric Phillips, Erik Flettrich, and either Jimmy Davis or Chris Scott on lead vocals. According the Fitz, the band plays rock, including covers of the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, and the rest depends on whether Davis or Scott will be singing. Scott will be at Sunday’s event.
Fitz, who is a bartender, worked for Ronnie Grisanti’s for 14 years. During the show, he works with two skillets over a propane-stove set-up. And while he doesn’t talk during the set — “It’s not a cooking show,” he says — he does set out bowls of his dishes for audience members, who then tip him, which covers the cost of the food.
During Sunday’s set, he’s planning on making a pineapple chicken dish served over coconut and vanilla rice.
“They play music,” Fitzpatrick says, “while I play the skillets. It’s music that smells good.”
