Pepper Paste at Mediterranean Market

I like to "feel the burn." But truth be told, I'm not all that into exercise. That's why I've become addicted to the Lebanese pepper paste they make at the Mediterranean International Market on Park Avenue just east of Highland.

The market, housed in a former Big Star grocery, also makes great homemade baba ganoush and their fresh minty tzatziki dip is so much better for dipping raw vegetables in than ranch dressing. But for my money there's nothing better than the paste. A dollop brings incredible heat and incredible flavor to a plain old pita with a smear of hummus. Fact is, I've been known to sit down and eat it by the spoonful while sweat and tears of joy pour down my face.
