Is there anything more delicious-sounding than a cake-cutting ceremony?
Today at Shara’s Paperie, there will be such an event to announce its new line of gift cakes, Cake Bliss, produced locally by Hilda Osarogiagbon.
Osarogiagbon says the path to Cake Bliss and Shara’s Paperie was like one of a boomerang.
Osarogiagbon is originally from Nigeria. She relocated to Texas, made her way to Memphis, and now runs a catering company. She met Shara Danziger, the owner of Shara’s Paperie, through their children, who go to the same school. Osarogiagbon enlisted Danziger to produce all the paper products needed for her catering business. Danziger also helped her with tasting events for the catering company.
For Osarogiagbon, Cake Bliss is a sideline, but one that already has a target market. She says the pound cakes, which she reworked to her exacting tastes from existing recipes, were already a go-to gift for her husband’s associates. “It’s a warm and heart-felt gift,” she says.
Among Cake Bliss’ offerings: sweet coconut lime, chocolate chip, lemon ginger, and cinnamon walnut. Cakes cost between $20 and $50.
Osarogiagbon has four children, ages 15 to 8. She admits her time is limited. She’s often up at 3:30 a.m. to get her work done. “I’m always going, going, going,” she says, But, besides her children, her pride-and-joy is what she produces from the kitchen. “I love it,” she says. “I honestly do. I love cooking. It’s more like an addiction.”
