Grilled Shrimp Ka-bob at Flying Fish

My name is Stacey Greenberg, and I am a Flying Fishaholic. It’s been three days since my last order of grilled shrimp ka-bobs. Seriously, if I don’t get my Flying Fish fix, I get the shakes. (Shimmies?)

The Flying Fish is primarily known for its fried food, boiled mudbugs (aka crawfish), and raw oysters. (Not to mention its kitschy interior replete with a “Liars’ Wall” for customers’ fishing photos and a Billy Bass Adoption Wall.) However, on days when I feel like treating myself to a “healthy” lunch, I opt for the shrimp ka-bobs — snappy! (You have to say, “Make it snappy!” if you want your food spiced up a bit with the signature seasonings.) The ka-bobs, which consist of two giant skewers, are jam-packed with jumbo shrimp, green pepper, onion, and tomato. Then they’re grilled to perfection and served with a hearty side of beans and rice. Other sides, such as grilled squash and zucchini and corn on the cob, are also available. It’s enough for two meals, although you may find it hard to stop eating — especially if, like me, you have a problem.
