Product Test: Papa Murphy's

As the guy behind the counter handed me my order, he asked "Have you baked with us before?"

The answer? No. That was my first time at the take-and-bake pizza chain Papa Murphy's in Germantown.

And now that I have baked with them, the question is: Will I bake with them again?

I'll leave it for now as a definite maybe.

I went with the Veggie deLite, a thin-crust pizza with garlic sauce, spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes, and I have nothing to complain about. The crust was good, the toppings super fresh.

Plus, it couldn't have been easier: remove the wrap and slip it in the oven 8 to 10 minutes in the oven. With the generous side salad, I had dinner and plenty of leftovers for less than $15.

I hesitate to say that I'll go there again mainly because it's far away from my usual stomping grounds.

That, and, because I belong to the school of thinking that even bad pizza is pretty good pizza, I'm not convinced of Papa Murphy's convenience factor. There's a certain appeal to frozen pizzas and their cardboard taste. Those pizzas are as close as your fridge or around the corner in the grocery store. Delivery is another easy option. If I'm going for quality, I'd just as soon go for something from a locally owned restaurant.

So who's the target audience for Papa Murphy's? I can't say that I know. You tell me.
