Something Old, Something New

Last week, I reacquainted myself with one of my favorite Memphis lunches: La Baguette's egg and olive sandwich with an order of its terrific tomato soup. (About $10 for sandwich, soup, and a drink.)

As for the something new ...

It was this cheesecake from the wholesale baker Classique Epicurious.

The cake was delivered to a coworker, but she kindly shared. It's not only pretty with its gold leaf accents (which has no taste that I could discern), but also absolutely what you'd want from a cheesecake — sour, sweet, great crust, perhaps a bit of booze in the whipped cream. In other words, perfect in every way.

Classique Epicurious recently won the Taste of the Town for Best Desserts. No wonder. The cake for my coworker came shortly before 5 p.m., and I couldn't help but eat an entire, very rich, piece. It ruined my dinner, and it was totally worth it.
