Just before the holidays, Pam suggested we check out City Market.
I hemmed and hawed. Given that the market is located at South Main and Union, I thought parking would be impossible. But we managed to secure a spot in a garage for a mere $1.
Inside we found a small but decent produce selection, and I was charmed that they had bags of bruised bananas selling for $1. (Just the thing for banana bread.)
They also had a good selection of ethnic goods and various market items. And, I managed to finish my Christmas shopping while there.
As for lunch ...
City Market offers a number of sandwiches and paninis as well as soup and salads.
Two of us got the Blue Goat panini ($6.79) — goat cheese, portobello, grilled onions, blue cheese roasted red peppers, and sun-dried tomatoes.
One coworker got the Memphis Cuban Hero panini ($6.99) — Memphis-style pulled pork, thinly sliced ham, provolone, and thinly sliced dill pickle. Another opted for the Trolley Special ($6.25) — sun-dried tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese on potato-rosemary bread.
Everybody was satisfied, and I was particularly pleased by the side of house-made chips.
