Is warm weather making you dream about a fresh seasonal vegetables? Is so, why not try growing your own?

Local farmer Ken Lansing of Windermere Farms is offering a beginning class for organic gardening on Saturday, February 26th, from 2 to 4 p.m. The cost is $25. Space is limited, so call ahead to reserve a spot.

Lansing will cover all the basics, including seed selection, soil preparation, and composting.

“One of the things we want people to understand is the importance of buying certified organic seeds,” said Ken’s wife, Freida Lansing. “From there, much of the class is directed by questions.”

In addition to the class, the Lansings are gearing up for busy spring. On Friday, Ken was planting blackberry bushes to add to the farm’s signature pick-your-own strawberries. Last year, too much rain ruined the farm’s strawberry crop, but this year, the strawberries are “looking good,” Freida said. “We are hoping to have a good bumper crop that will be ready for picking by the end of April.”
