Loads of food-related things to do this week, and I hope to post a round-up later, but one of the biggies is the opening of the Memphis Farmers Market, this Saturday, April 16th.
This year's market features an expanded covered pavilion area at Central Station. It's open from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays through mid-October.
Other opening dates for farmers markets:
The South Memphis Farmers Market (one of my faves) returns for its second season on Thursday, April 21st. It's open from noon to 6 p.m. through October 27th. It's located at the corner of South Parkway and Mississippi.
They delayed it for a year, but the Urban Farms Farmers Market is finally opening on Saturday, April 23rd. This one's at the corner of Tillman and Sam Cooper. It's open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays and from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.
The Memphis Botanic Garden Farmers Market opens on Wednesday, April 27th. Great for a mid-week infusion of produce. Runs from 2 to 6 p.m. through the end of October.
The Cooper-Young Community Farmers Market returns for its second season on Saturday, April 30th. I especially appreciate this market's laid-back style. It runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 29th.
The granddaddy of them all ... the farmers market at Agricenter International opens Monday, May 2nd. This market has particularly generous hours: 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Millington Farmers Market is set to open on Saturday, May 8th, and will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's held at 5152 Easley Street.
The Collierville Farmers Market is scheduled to open in mid-May. It's on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location is unclear, but it's usually near the town square.
Did I miss any? Let me know.
Also curious to know which market is your favorite and why?
