We checked out Rizzo's Diner shortly after it opened.
This upscale diner is in the former Harry's site, and I didn't notice any dramatic changes to the interior.
Greg ordered the Cheese Burger Soup ($3 a cup), which chef/owner Michael Patrick describes on Rizzo's smallish menu as a childhood favorite and "Memphis, my gift to you."
I think Greg may have been a bit more thankful for the slow-roasted brisket ($8.95), which comes with mac and cheese.
Mike got the open-faced turkey sandwich ($8.95). Mike generally only eats about half his lunch. On this day, he cleaned the plate. I'll spare you the photo ... the flash on the pink turkey meat ... shudder.
Hannah and I split the stuffed avocado salad ($8) and the vegetable po-boy ($6.50).
The salad was my favorite thing we tried. It's perhaps too light for the fall and not enough for lunch. But I like the quinoa, the chow-chow just a little bit of sweet.
While the space is small and a bit tight when filled, we were comfortable enough to want to hang around after lunch and get dessert.
This was a banana split sundae.
And we tried the chocolate pie.
The table was split on which was best. I liked the chocolate pie best — rich, creamy, classic.
I should note that once we were done Chef Patrick waived the cost of the desserts. A nice gesture, but I think our minds were made up already that we're coming back to try ore of Rizzo's offerings.
