Yep, it's Girl Scout cookie time, and it would appear that Family Dollar and Walgreens want in on the action. See above for their takes on the Thin Mint.
Family Dollar (who else is alarmed about how Family Dollarized Memphis is becoming?) offers a whole line of Girl Scouts-esque under the Family Gourmet brand. In addition to the Fudge Covered Mint Cookie, there are stand-ins for the Samoa and Tagalongs among them. Each box sells for $1.85, as opposed to $3.50 for Girl Scout cookies.
The Walgreens Nice! Fudge Mint Cookies offers more cookies per box and sells for $2.99.
As for the taste ... the Thin Mints, pictured at top, top the other two. This may have something to do with when the Family Dollar and Walgreen's cookies were made. The Family Dollar cookie (middle) tasted most similar but was noticeably harder. The Walgreen's had less mint flavor and was a blander cookie over all.
The ethics involved in the fudge-covered copies is questionable, and while I'm a Thin Mint fan as much as the next gal and can appreciate the idea of having them year-round, I think I resist these.
