Which Local Politico Are You? Mary Cashiola is ...

For the politically minded of you out there, here are some things you might want to know.

Then again, if you're that politically minded, you probably already know about them.

Test yourself after the jump.

1. Because of flooding, which you may have noticed this past weekend, the city of Memphis is considering a detention basin in the middle of Overton Park.

Because of the budget process, the City Council has delayed a meeting about the proposal until at least June.

But ... If you're interested in signing a petition against the proposal, you can do so at Burke's Books, Midtown Video, Joe's Wines and Liquors, Kimbrough Wine and Liquor, Breakaway, Outdoors Inc., Cafe Eclectic, the Art Center, Eclectic Eye, the Peddler Bike Shop, Hollywood Feed, Drake Cleaners, and Otherlands.

In the interests of fairness, I should tell you where to sign a petition FOR the proposal, but I do not know of such a petition. So I can't.

2. The Memphis Corp of Engineers recently released a public notice about work on the historic cobblestones, including concrete walkways and rip rap embankment. Memphis Heritage is concerned that the changes could have an adverse effect on the site's historical authenticity and is encouraging interested parties to contact the Corp of Engineers and ask for a public hearing by May 6th.

For more info, go here.

3. The Coalition for Livable Communities and Transportation for America are hosting a meeting at the Memphis Leadership Foundation building May 14th at 5:30 p.m. to get citizen comment on local transportation issues. The event is free, but reservations are encouraged. Call 725-8370.

4. The first round of the RDC's Mud Island Land Use study is available now. The two reports, one with findings from public meetings and survey responses, is available here.

The RDC will also hold two public meetings to get input on the concepts; the first will be Tuesday, May 12th, at 5:45 at the Memphis Botanic Gardens. The second will be Thursday, May 14th, at 5:45 at the Mud Island River Park Harbor Landing. There should also be a new online survey.

Know about them all? You are Myron Lowery. Or Deidre Malone. Your choice.
