For the month of November, all MAS pets whose ID number begins with 29 can be adopted for $29.
Memphis Animal Services achieved their highest save rate in October, saving a little over 89 percent of all pets last month, the shelter announced Friday.
This number is more than an 11 percent increase from the save rate last October, while marking a full year of the shelter maintaining a rate above 80 percent. Officials also report that the number of public adoptions are up 21 percent from this time last year.
Using the national Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Save Rate as a monthly benchmark of success, MAS' goal is to save 90 percent of all pets each month. However, MAS officials say the more important goal is to be able to completely eliminate euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.
"We really hoped we would hit that 90 percent milestone this month, and we came so close," MAS administrator, Alexis Pugh said. "But we're still very proud to have broken yet another all-time shelter record, and we want to celebrate our progress while always keeping our ultimate goals at the forefront."
In step with that goal, through November MAS is offering an adoption promotion that will let the public adopt any pet whose ID number begins with 29, like Lindsey in MAS' video below, for $29. Photos of the dogs ready for adoption under this promotion can be viewed here
MAS notes that all adoptions include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, and heart worm test for dogs; FIV/FeLV test for cats; and a collar, leash, and customized ID tag for all pets.
