In my column this week, I mentioned that I'm signed up for an email service created by the Memphis Police Department that sends me a daily update on crime in my area. A number of folks have asked how it works and how to sign up.

It's very simple to sign up. Just go here and fill out the online form. You supply your address and designate how large an area you'd like to know about. I use a half-mile as my designation. You then get a daily email, letting you know about every crime, large or small, committed in your area.

I highly recommend it.
