No matter how hard his fans clap or call out for an encore James Hyter, the Mid-South's most famous bass voice, won't be coming back to sing about the peaceful ambivalance of the mighty Mississippi River.

Hyter, who sang Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein's "Old Man River" at Memphis in May's Sunset Symphony for 21 consecutive years died on Thursday, April 2. He was 87.
