The Dish: What's on the menu at A Taste of Playhouse

Curtain Up: A Taste of Playhouse goes down this Saturday night AT 7 P.M. And while I can assure you all it's a delicious concept I must confess that the event's name always raises an eyebrow. I mean, what would Playhouse on the Square actually taste like? Old costumes? Actor sweat? Elvis residue from the days when POTS was the King's favorite movie house? I mean ICK, right? Well Courtney Oliver, Playhouse on the Square's Jane-of-all-trades, told me in confidence that

I was "very silly" and even if there was someone willing to lick the Playhouse stage the marketing department probably wouldn't approve of that kind of reportage. (Oops, was I not supposed to print that?) She then listed all the goodies on this year's menu. It really does sound like a bargain at $100 a pop. So here it is:

In the Gallery, starting at 7pm:

Food: Wade & Company is providing a lovely cheese spread with artisan cheeses and breads
Bar: There will also be 2 bars serving red and white wine, and champagne

In the Memphian Room, starting at 7pm:
Food: Wade & Company will be serving passed appetizers that include Bacon Wrapped Artichoke Hearts topped with an Onion Ragout; Shrimp Satay Skewers with a Sweet Chili dipping sauce; Mini Tarts with Herbed Boursin, Sun-Dried Tomatoes and a Basil Pesto Drizzle; and Mini Blue Crab Cakes with Roasted Red Pepper Remoulade.
Bar: Our Memphian Room Bar will be open serving sodas, coffee, and water - and 2 additional bars will be serving 6 different flavored Martini drinks.
Entertainment: The lovely Ms. Renee Kemper will be playing the grand piano throughout the evening.

In the Scene Shop, starting at 8pm:
Food: Wade & Company will be serving a dinner (buffet style) of a Salad of Trendy Greens, Sliced Apples, Candied Pecans, Gorgonzola, with an Orange Vinaigrette; Roasted Fall Vegetable Trio of Sweet Potatoes, Parsnips, and Carrots with Caramelized Onion and Honey Glaze; and an Herb Roasted Chicken Breast Smothered in Lemon Caper Buerre Blanc with Haricot Vert.
Bar: A bar will also be in this room serving assorted beers, wine, and mixed drinks

In the Theatre, on Stage, starting at 9:30pm:
Food: Wade & Company will be providing assorted desserts
Bar: We'll have a bar serving after-dinner drinks and cordials. We'll also have another bar that will continue to serve beer and mixed drinks.
