Bruce VanWyngarden is the editorial director of Contemporary Media, and editor of The Memphis Flyer. He joined the Contemporary Media staff in 1993. Previously, he was managing editor of Missouri Life Magazine and The Saturday Review, and editor of Pittsburgh Magazine. He taught nonfiction writing at the University of Pittsburgh and is a co-author of Aquarius Revisited: Seven Who Created the 1960s, published by MacMillan & Co. in 1987. His reviews and articles have appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, American Heritage, and other publications. A winner of many regional writing awards, VanWyngarden was named "Best Columnist" in the 2017 national Alternative Newsweekly Awards.
