The International Folk Alliance holds its last Memphis conference this week before the organization relocates to Kansas City. The multi-day event, which takes place over the course of several days at the Downtown Marriott hotel, is mostly restricted to conference registrants. But the Folk Alliance will open the doors to the wider community for a “Public Night” Wednesday, February 22nd. The all-ages event at the Marriott will feature 30 Folk Alliance artists as part of seven separate shows. A tribute to late Memphis musician/producer Jim Dickinson will feature his son, Luther, former Riverbluff Clan members Jimmy Davis, Eric Lewis, and Tommy Burroughs, and Mississippi singer-songwriter Shannon McNally (pictured). Local songwriter Nancy Apple will bring her “Pickin’ Party” to the event, featuring Keith Sykes and Dan Montgomery, among others. Other shows include a Latin music showcase, a Memphis songwriters open mic, and a tribute to blues great Robert Johnson. Tickets are $10. Music starts at 7 p.m. For more information, see folkalliance.org.
