A.A. Bondy and Amy Cook

When: Fri., Jan. 8, 10 p.m. 2010

A.A. Bondy is a former frontman for Birmingham-based post-grunge hopefuls Verbena, but solo he performs in more of an indie-folk/roots-rock mold with tinges of country and blues. Most of Bondy’s latest album, When the Devil’s Loose, was recorded as a trio (with Memphian Paul Buchignani on drums) in Water Valley, Mississippi. This second solo album, issued by Oxford’s Fat Possum label, has a loose, warm, graceful feel, which portends good things for the music’s translation to the stage. Bondy performs at the Hi-Tone Café Friday, January 8th, with Amy Cook opening. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $10. — Chris Herrington
