Commercial Appeal writer Blake Fontenay used his blog to take a little jab at the Flyer last week. Give The Memphis Flyer credit, he wrote. The alternative newsweekly is at least trying to correct some of its mistakes. Fontenay quotes a recent Flyer correction that, we are sorry to say, wasn t entirely correct. We reported that Memphis chief administrative officer Keith McGee had previously served as deputy director and director of Human Services [for the city of Memphis]. Well, not quite, the CA s intrepid blogger continues, McGee actually served as deputy director and director of the city s human resources division. Fontenay s comment reminds us of a full-page photo essay the CA ran a couple of weeks back. The spread was supposed to be about a group of suburban students taking a field trip to the post office. But there were no students in any of the pictures. Come to think of it, there wasn t a post office either. So to borrow a line from a crack reporter whose accidental insight is clearly impeccable, at least the CA s trying.
