"Blind Side" Movie Gets Writer/Director

The film adaptation of Michael Lewis' Blind Side has been put on the fast-track, according to the LA Times.

Blind Side follows the story of Michael Oher, a homeless black teenager who was taken in by a white couple in Memphis. The couple enrolled him in Briarcrest, where Oher caught the eye of college football recruiters across the country. Oher now plays at Ole Miss.

Lewis sold the rights to the film to Fox studios last October, but expressed doubts about the film ever making it to the screen.

Fox has named John Lee Hancock as the screenwriter and director. Hancock's screenwriting credits include A Perfect World and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. He also wrote and directed The Alamo.
