This fall and winter, Memphis fans will have their eyes on a pair of hometown rookies in the NFL (DeAngelo Williams) and the NBA (Rodney Carney). But as summer winds down, they should turn their attention westward, at least for the conclusion of the baseball season, as Germantown’s Matt Cain has pitched his way into contention for the National League Rookie of the Year award. Cain won his fourth straight start last week — and gave up only two hits in eight innings — to keep his San Francisco Giants in contention for a playoff berth. Read about his outing here.
