Everyone has co-workers who annoy them: the office gossip, the abusive manager, the incompetent schmuck who gets away with it because he knows whose asses to kiss. Memphis filmmaker DeAara Lewis has a question for all of you suffering through another workday surrounded by jerks. If you had magic powers, what would you do to get even? What would you do to get ahead? That's the premise behind The Confessions of a Witch Bitch, Lewis' newest project, which she is currently raising funds for on the crowdsourcing website Kickstarter.
Lewis has been producing, directing, and acting in Memphis independent film for a decade, bursting onto the scene with the political thriller The Forgotten Ones. She is best known for writing, directing, and acting in the 2007 film Tricks, a feature about scrappy women trying to make a living in a brothel.
The web series The Confessions of a Witch Bitch will also see her filling the producer, writer, director, and actor chairs. Lewis will play Alex, a modern-day witch who has been exiled from her coven and forced to get a day job. But Alex's efforts to keep a low profile run into trouble when she finds herself the target of workplace bullying.
Lewis is looking to raise $15,000 on Kickstarter for a season of 15-minute web episodes. The campaign runs until August 12th, and, as of press time, had received more than $2,300 in pledges.
