DIY Cleaning Solutions Class with Deanna Caswell and Daisy Siskins

When: Tue., July 3, 10:30 a.m. 2012

I've become a complete Do-It-Yourself nerd. Counters are cleaned with vinegar and water. Glass surfaces get the same solution plus a little dish soap.

This weekend, while half the family made six months' worth of laundry detergent from soap, soda, borax, and a little lavender from the garden, the other half was out in the yard clipping lemongrass and killing crabgrass with a spray-on mixture of molasses, water, and soap topped off with a sprinkle of baking soda.

So, obviously, I've got to know what new and nifty make-at-home solutions to everyday problems Deanna Caswell (aka the Goat Lady) and her partner in DIY-crime, Daisy Siskins, have cooked up to share when they visit the Collerville Burch Library on Tuesday, July 3rd. Caswell and Siskins are the co-authors of Little House in the Suburbs, a blog that teaches readers how to do everything from making soap out of bacon grease to treating your pimple problems with oil. They also have a book of the same name.

Caswell and Siskins are hosting a "cleaning solutions" class and will teach participants how to convert common household products into powerful tools in the never-ending battle against grossness and stink. Each student will take home a sample of ready-to-use laundry detergent for the home.

It feels really good to know every ingredient that goes into your cleaning products and even better to know that you've checked one more overpriced item off your grocery list forever.

Cleaning Solutions with Deanna Caswell and Daisy Siskins at the Collierville Burch Library, Halle Room. Tuesday, July 3rd, 10:30 a.m.-noon. Call 457-2601 to sign up. Free.
