Dirty South

Longtime residents of the Edge District, a perennially down-at-heels neighborhood just east of downtown, must be thrilled at all the development happening in their area. Well, the naughtier residents, anyway. A semi-nude dance club recently opened on Monroe in conjunction with a steak house called The Tenderloin. Just around the corner, there's a frankfurter stand called Dawgie Style. At this point, if a church opened up in the area it would have to call itself The Missionary so as not to compromise the integrity of its surroundings.

Dirty Dialing

The phone book is underrated as a work of literature. Oh sure, the plot's weak, and there are way too many characters to keep track of, but the surprises you'll find within its pages are always unexpected and truly satisfying. Just this week, for instance, your Pesky Fly was browsing the white pages and stumbled across a listing for "Ram in the Bush Christian Center." We're sure it's a perfectly lovely place, even if its name could be mistaken for the directions found on several adult toys.

Who knew The Commercial Appeal was an art gallery? Well, it's selling pictures from the print edition on its Web site, anyway. An 8-by-10-inch print costs $29.95, an 11-by-14-inch print costs $49.95, and a giant 20-by-30-inch print is a steal at $119.95. We were particularly impressed that the CA's photographers were clever enough to snap a beautiful shot of Morgan Savannah Shaw prior to the child's kidnapping and brutal assault. And we sincerely hope proceeds from the sale of that picture go toward paying the hospital bill.
