For Chew



As the imposing, gospel-schooled bassist and back-up vocalist for the North Mississippi Allstars, Chris Chew has cut an iconic figure in Memphis music for over a decade. This week, at the Hi-Tone Café, some of Chew's bandmates and friends will lend him a helping hand in the form of a benefit concert to assist Chew with recent medical expenses.

While out of town earlier this summer, Chew had a medical complication that left him hospitalized for several weeks. In order to help with the hospital bills he incurred, Chew's North Mississippi Allstars bandmates, Luther and Cody Dickinson (pictured, with Chew), will headline a benefit concert that will also feature Mid-South blues/rock master Alvin Youngblood Hart, two of northern Mississippi's signature rock bands, Tyler Keith & the Apostles and Blue Mountain, and a DJ set from former Big Ass Truck-er Colin Butler. Additional artists are expected to be added to the bill.

There will be a $10 suggested donation taken at the door, as well as a silent auction. All proceeds will go toward Chew's medical expenses.
