It's the time of year when loads of touring bands hit Memphis on their way to or from Austin for mid-March's annual South By Southwest Music Festival. One of these is Brooklyn's Fort Lean, a five-piece indie band whose guitar-pop style falls somewhere between the Shins and Coldplay, with the hooky neatness of the former and the ambition of the latter. Yet another band born out of Wesleyan University (MGMT, Das Racist, Francis & Lights), Fort Lean are already garnering significant buzz for a recent debut, self-released EP and seven-inch single, the percussive "Sunsick." In an indie world more accelerated and disposable than ever, blog-driven hype comes and goes, but this sounds like a band with the chops and scope to evolve into something more durable. Fort Lean plays the Hi-Tone Café on Monday, March 12th, with fellow Brooklyn indie band Suckers. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $12.
