HAIL TO THE CHIEFZ

The issue of Playbook, Friday before last, contained a fabulous in-depth profile titled Rappers Releasing First CD by the CA s fabulous in-depth profiler Michael Donahue. It s all about a Memphis hip-hop group called the Officialz, fronted by a flow-artist who goes by the name Niygel Rap Jr. Batts. If you ve already thrown this issue away, it s time to go digging through the dumpster because Donahue s fly article contains what may very well be the greatest quote since the invention of quota tion marks. The limber-tongued rapper Jay-Z is the Officialz primary influence and Batts told Donahue, He s the greatest rapper alive. This man got so many flows if the next rapper flow (he) flow in his flow. He done took all the flow. It almost sounds like something our president might say in a rare, unscripted moment.
