The New York Times Sunday Styles section took a gander at the Maritime Hotel on Ninth Avenue in New York. It's a Big Apple-sized pickup point which, the article claims, "blurs the boundary between hostelry and 24/7 entertainment..[becoming] a sort of hot-spot multiplex." Commenting on the Martime's reputation as a meat market, the Times quoted an article from the "snarky Web site" Gawker.com that described the crowd as "loud-talking account executives," "nasally bubbleheads" on cellhones, and "vomiting schoolchildren,in from Bayside and Bayonne." Not to disparage the Gray Lady, but this quote didn't originate with the "snarky" Gawker. It came from bookishblog.com, another snarky site authored by notorious snark and former Flyer writer Jim Hanas, who created a snarky little column called "Fly on the Wall." So put that in your snarky pipe and snark on it. Snark.
