Jason Aldean at Snowden Grove Amphitheater

In a musical landscape currently littered with generic hunk types, Jason Aldean has managed to become a major country star on his own terms. Aldean is a normal-looking dude but has a musical facility that ranges from dirt-road anthems (his breakthrough single, "Hicktown") to power ballads ("Don't You Wanna Stay," with Kelly Clarkson). The latest of Aldean's six number-one country hits is actually called "Dirt Road Anthem" and features Aldean essentially rapping the verses — credibly and without the usual genre-switch self-consciousness. Aldean hits Snowden Grove Amphitheater in Southaven this week with opener Colt Ford, who co-wrote and first recorded "Dirt Road Anthem." Duet, anyone? Aldean plays Snowden Grove on Thursday, August 18th. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $39.75 to $54.75.
