The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Obviously, the need for a state militia has been replaced by the National Guard and Coast Guard, whereby trained military personnel are entrusted with the defense of this country against domestic enemies. Their weapons are tightly controlled and safeguarded.
The only two reasons for a citizen to own a firearm are for hunting or defense of the household from intruders. In either case, ownership of a single-shot rifle is more than adequate to satisfy these purposes. There is absolutely no need for any U.S. civilian to own any weapon more powerful or sophisticated than this.
Accordingly, all single-shot rifles must be licensed and registered to the degree necessary to match weapon to owner at the click of a computer key. Furthermore, if we had prevented the purchase of more sophisticated weapons, several innocent victims would not have died or been harmed at shopping malls, college campuses, congressional meetings, a movie theater, and now an elementary school. The question before the American people is: What are you prepared to do to prevent people who want to kill from obtaining rapid-fire weapons such as those used at the Newtown school?
It goes without saying that people kill people, whether it be with a gun, automobile, or some other means. This incident involving Adam Lanza appears to be the planned act of someone who was so full of rage that murdering innocent children and adults was his only way of expressing such evil behavior. Now that he is dead, we can only speculate about his motives but now are also left to grieve the results of such a heinous act.
Gun culture in America is being controlled by a lunatic fringe of the NRA and gun-happy Republican politicians, while 315 million Americans sit idly by doing nothing (Letter From the Editor, December 20th issue).
Do you have a 6- or 7-year-old child? Twenty innocent children of this age were slaughtered by guns in a frenzy of murder and mayhem.
Some say it's not time for finger-pointing, but that's exactly what time it is: time to start finger-pointing regarding the ever-increasing gun violence in America. On one hand, we have the NRA mantra, "Guns don't kill, people do." What tripe. If we could ask the 20 young children what ended their lives — people or guns and bullets? — would there be any doubt as to their answer?
On the other hand, we have gun-happy Republican politicians passing lax and loony laws, e.g., allowing students to bring guns on college campuses. Can't you hear the sirens blaring after a jilted lover seeks revenge?
And behind it all is the gun industry, fueling this epidemic of shooting rampages with deadly firepower that only belongs on a battlefield. Unfortunately, fear is big business, and gun sales will boom after this latest shooting spree.

The Joy of Killing
Until there is no more love for the joy of killing, there will be killing tragedies. Killing of innocent animals with guns is a sport — the joy of killing. We certainly do not need to kill animals to eat, because they've already been tortured and killed for your eating pleasure.
Killing someone for pissing you off or disagreeing with you — the joy of killing.
Guns equated with liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness — the joy of killing. People kill because it gives them joy. I don't get it.
Merry Christmas, Liberals!
Christmas has always been extra special to me, because of my December 22nd birthday. This year was really special, because not only did I get to laugh at the Mayans but also at the millions of buffoons who gave credibility to these hallucinating wankers in the first place.
However, liberals, fear not. There are still many idiotic favorites that you and your offspring will get to see crumble into nothingness: global warming, evolution, life on other planets, the Big Bang theory, Bigfoot, and Nessie, to name a few. All the idiotic staples of your misguided existence will end in the same, unceremonious, laughable impotence.
