Mary Mary at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts

One of the most successful contemporary gospel acts, Mary Mary (sisters Erica and Tina Atkins) have shown an ability to cross over to pop/R&B fans while remaining true to themselves. Their charming, positive, propulsive 2011 single "Walking" was a gospel/R&B crossover that felt a little bit like a glossier, modern, post-hip-hop Staple Singers hit, and it fronted an album, Something Big, that indeed sounded like something big in its corner of the music world. "Go Get It," the lead title single of the duo's forthcoming album (due May 8th), is a similarly confident blend of gospel with current R&B and hip-hop production styles, albeit a little less elegant in its messaging than "Walking." Recently, the duo's crossover reign expanded with the addition of a reality television series on the WB network. Mary Mary perform at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, April 15th. Showtime is 6 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $55.
