Memphis Film Debuts at Seattle Film Fest

If you're a fiction writer and you kill off one of your characters, does that make you a murderer? That's just one of the questions raised in Lovely By Surprise, a made-in-Memphis feature film scheduled to debut at the Seattle International Film Festival on Thursday, June 14th. The surprisingly sweet black comedy was written and directed by Shelby County native Kirt Gunn, and inspired by the whimsical "Cloud Wow" music of another Bluff City ex-patriot, Shelby Bryant.

Gunn founded the River City Shakespeare Festival in the mid-1990s, producing shows at the Tennessee Brewery, the Overton Park Shell, and other outdoor venues. He also fronted the Delta Queens, a popular Stones-influenced Blues Rock quartet famous for dressing up like little old ladies.

Currently, Gunn works in New York, where he specializes in new media advertising.
