More Mo's Nose

Last year, Mo smelled red. Last May, Mo smelled green. And now Mo has his nose geared up for the coming season in Mo Smells the Holidays, the latest book in the Mo children's series written by Margaret Hyde and illustrated by her friend Amanda Giacomini.

Young readers can take in, nose-wise, the holidays too. As in Mo Smells Red and Mo Smells Green, Hyde and Giacomini follow the lovable pooch named Mo on a "scentsational" journey, which kids can follow interactively as well. That's thanks to the classic holiday scents on seven scented stickers that youngsters can attach to the appropriate page of the book — from the smell of fall leaves to the fireworks of New Year's Eve.

Meet with Hyde when she signs Mo Smells the Holidays this week at Davis-Kidd Booksellers. She'll be reading the book too, and kids in the audience will be treated to drinks and snacks: an example of giving and receiving very much in the spirit of the holidays. It's also in the spirit of the Mo series, because a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Mo Smells the Holidays goes to the Best Friends Animal Society and its efforts in support of animal societies nationwide.

When it comes to Memphis, Hyde's no stranger. She's, in fact, a born Memphian now living in Southern California, and, in addition to being an author, publisher, and photographer, she made an added name for herself as producer of the Oscar-nominated documentary on Memphis' Rev. Samuel "Billy" Kyles, The Witness: From the Balcony of Room 306. Welcome Hyde home when she's back in town on Monday, October 26th.
